What it is about

Winter is coming to the wood. You are a squirrel with one autumn left, and every roll of the dice is a spot on the forest map. Drop an acorn there, build caches worth digging up in winter, and keep an eye on the frost creeping in. When the seventh frost box is marked, winter arrives and you count your piles. Print a sheet, grab two six-sided dice and a pencil. A game takes 15 to 20 minutes. How it plays Roll two dice. The numbers give a row and a column, and you pick which way round. Draw an acorn there. Acorns that touch each other form a cache. Doubles bring frost. So does a blocked roll when both squares are taken. Oaks add 2 to a cache, the burrow doubles it, and jays steal from small piles. Big caches stop paying after five acorns, so you keep deciding: grow this pile or start a new one? Three times a game, Nut Sense lets you nudge a die by one. What's inside (7 pages, A4 and US Letter) Full rules on one page, with a scoring table A worked example with a scored board, a turn summary and tips Two map sheets: Hazel Hollow and Bramble Ridge A random forest sheet so every game can be different Rank bands to beat: hungry, lean, snug, fat and happy We set the frost track and the ranks by playing 4,000 simulated games on each map.
