What it is about

Save the Ancient City of Thalassia Ereipiapolis! You are approached by a weakened noble named Min-me-xechnas , the last remaining inhabitant of the ancient city of Thalassia Ereipiapolis . Min-me-xechnas asks you for a favor: to retrieve a mysterious tablet called I Mystiriodis Plaka hidden in the clouds by the evil Tha-xechaseis . With the tablet, Min-me-xechnas can restore the city’s power to revive its lost citizens and return to their former glory . But be careful, if you don't find it in time then Thalassia Ereipiapolis will be lost to the sea! To play, you just need the one printed sheet of paper , a pair of scissors (for setup), and a six-sided dice . Easter Eggs! You play as a character called O-iroas (Ο Ήρωας). This is Greek for “The Hero.” There’s a constellation hidden in the sky above Thalassia Ereipiapolis of “The Hero” too, can you spot where it is? The names Min-me-xechnas , Tha-xechaseis , I Mystiriodis Plaka , and Thalassia Ereipiapolis are also Greek. Do you know what they mean? Let’s Get Real. Thalassia Ereipiapolis is a fictional city, but rising sea levels are a real problem in the real world . Global warming contributes to melting glaciers, which make their way into the ocean and cause the sea level to rise . Entire countries like Tuvalu and the Marshall Islands may be lost to the sea in the next 100 years . So what can we do to save these places? One solution is simply moving people from these endangered areas elsewhere. People from small island countries in the Pacific Ocean are already moving to places like Australia and New Zealand, which are larger and have higher elevation so are less prone to the effects of rising sea levels. But this doesn’t get rid of the climate problem, and it also might mean that people’s cultures could be lost . There are some ways to protect tides from reaching the land , or to create new land via land reclamation. But these are temporary , and they still don’t prevent the sea level from rising. The best way to stop sea levels from rising is to stop global warming . To do this, the key is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions . And to do this, people are working on things like forest conservation , green transportation , more sustainable agriculture , and carbon capture technologies . By supporting a greener planet , we can help preserve the places most at risk of becoming lost to the sea! Want to read more?
