Another Christmas Dinner

Your teenage grandchild is home for Christmas. Five days. They count calories. You filled the fridge. Stop cooking, and you withhold your love. Keep cooking, and you may drive them away. In any case, cooking is your only language. Another Christmas Dinner is a one-page solo journaling game about food, family, and the distance between generations. Each day, you remember a dish and ask an AI to estimate its calories. The higher the number, the more cards you must draw and the more likely your care is to become another complaint. Across five quiet days, meals carry memories, questions remain half-spoken, and compromise and complaint are never far behind. Perhaps the food will open a space between you. Perhaps it will close that space off. Designer Note This game was born during a holiday when I returned home while suffering from gastritis. I noticed the disappointment in my grandmother’s eyes. It made me want to create a game about the helplessness of elderly people who can only express their love through food — often through traditional dishes that are high in salt and fat.
