What it is about
REBUILD Overview REBUILD is a one-page solo roleplaying game about a small village recovering from the destruction of a meaningless war, and a military mech abandoned by their nation following the ceasefire. Together they must set aside their history to rebuild. The engine of REBUILD is a solitaire card game with 'push-your-luck' dice mechanics. Play represents the myriad of tasks the village faces each season, and in its current state is terribly unprepared to handle. The village will rely on the assistance of the mech, carefully allocating battery to tip the odds in their favour. But this perfect weapon of war is only an imperfect tool of agriculture and chores, and time marches on leaving tasks to wither away. The outcome of the season will unfold prompts for journalling on behalf of the village as well as the mech. Explore how the village's relationship with the mech evolves, and whether the mech can fight back against its hard-wired directives of violence. Build Your Own Mech REBUILD asks you to invent a village and mech of your own. You are encouraged to modify, upgrade and damage your mech throughout the story in line with the prompts. While it is easiest to capture your mech in written form, you are encouraged to build a physical model of your own, give life to the design in a drawing. As the story evolves, a once uniform and indistinct mech will age and grow into a distinct character of its own, and perhaps even a keepsake to treasure for many seasons to follow. Solo RPGs This game relies on a foundational understanding of ‘prompt-based’ solo play. REBUILD was created for the 2026 One Page Game Jam, so there was not much space to explain the basics of how to journal responses, writing in the voice of the character, and other assumptions with this style of play. If this is your first time experimenting with a solo RPG, I’d highly recommend checking out Thousand Year Old Vampire , Thousand Empty Light , Koriko: A Magical Year for play examples and more in depth explanations of this format. Materials To play REBUILD you will need a standard 52 card deck, a full set of dice (D4, D6, D8, D10, D12, D20) and a method of journaling for your story (can be digital or analogue). Full Game Length 3-4 hours. Average play session is 30 minutes (4 seasons/1 year). Inspirations Disco Elysium, Neon Genesis Evangelion and Wanderhome.
