What it is about

This boxed set includes the full rules, the oracle toolkit, scenarios 1-4, character sheet, playthroughs, and a bestiary - Everything you need to immerse yourself in the murk. The murk doesn't care about your build. It rises on its own clock, the things living in it move through it like it's weather, and the only question the game ever actually asks is whether you came out the other side. FOKED is the whole box: the complete rules, every scenario built so far, and the full record of one hunter who ran all four jobs on honest dice and paid for the last one with everything she had. There's a couple more run-throughs of the first scenario here too: https://demonspawnbg.itch.io/foked/devlog/1632259/i-rolled-three-random-characte... Foked is set in Hellsborough and the Dark Peak — a parallel South Yorkshire where a fog called the murk never fully lifts, most of the population is wired into a hivemind they didn't ask to join, and the things that live past the edge of town were never magic, only violence. It's the same world as the Hellsborough Chronicles novels, seen from the ground: no chosen ones, no spells to lean on, just a contract, a torch, and whatever the moor decides to do about it. --- One roll runs the whole game: 2d6 + a stat against the Cut. Beat it by 4 or more and you get what you wanted, clean — the murk takes nothing. Scrape it (beat it by 0–3) and you get it anyway, but you pay a Toll: lose 1 from the stat you rolled. Miss by 1–3 and you're FOKED — you fail, pay the Toll regardless, and the Murk Clock ticks forward. Miss by 4 or more and it's RUIN— you fail outright and the oracle draws Predation, the table that decides exactly how the Dark Peak makes you pay for it. There is no separate health bar. Your three stats — GRIT (body), WIT (mind), MURK (how much of the dark matter you can hold before it holds you) — are your health. Damage lands directly on the stat you fought with, so a bad fight doesn't just hurt, it shrinks the character you have left for the next one. Drop a stat past half its starting value and you mark a Wound: −1 to every roll until it's treated, stacking with every other Wound you're carrying. The spiral is the game. It doesn't come for you on the first scratch. It will come. Named threats — the Bosses, the things with proper names — don't degrade like everything else. They fight every round at full, undamaged power until a single health pool built from all three of their stats hits zero, and a handful can't be killed at all: you don't win those fights, you survive them, or find the one specific thing the encounter says will move them. Clean kills are rare. You will leave a Boss fight having lost something, on purpose, because that's the promise the system makes and keeps. --- In the box - Core Rules — full character creation across six species (Netherlander, Jellyhead, Xin, Clown, Exacid, Xaexs) and four character types, the complete combat and Wound rules, the Murk Clock, Predation, skill trees, and advancement. Everything you need to sit down and play, solo or with a second hunter at the table. - Oracle Toolkit — the authoring half of the game: terrain tables, Hex Seeds for dropping a complication into any tile, and a blank hex sheet, so you can raise a stretch of the Dark Peak out of nothing and run it with no prep and no second person needed. - Bestiary — stat blocks for 35 creatures and named adversaries of Hellsborough and the Dark Peak, from colony gnawmards you fight off in packs to Yar Viranna, Queen of the Murk Wraiths, who cannot be killed at all — only put back down. - Four Scenarios — three Tier I jobs (including the two new to this box, What the Scratchers Found and What Murkmoor Drank) and one Tier II sandbox, What the Nine Ladies Remember. Pre-built. Pick one up and play. - The Coker Campaign — all four scenarios played end to end with a single Exacid SCRAPPER, every roll left where it fell. Character creation to the finale, nothing scripted, nothing fudged — the rules in motion, and what they actually cost. Murk Rating: II rising to III across the four scenarios — Scenarios 01–02 are II, Scenarios 03–04 are III (see hellsborough.com/murk-rating for what that means) --- A taste of the Dark Peak Veth's twenty-three sightings begin three murkneets ago. She does not know about Rem Crale. Rem Crale was a survey assistant whose last reported location was a farmstead ruin on the upper fell. Rem went missing eight months ago. The record was filed unresolved, and the survey region was reassigned. You do not know about Rem Crale either. Not yet. The scratchers are heading for a stretch of open fell containing a single standing stone — eight feet high, inscription worn smooth. They are not attacking it. They are watching it. Something at the stone is broadcasting. You are going to find out what. — from Scenario 02: What the Scratchers Found That's the whole shape of a Foked job: a contract, a reason someone else stopped looking, and a hex map that gets worse the closer you get to the answer. --- Solo-first. The oracle handles everything a GM would. Bring a second player and the rules don't care either way. --- See every Postcard Adventure, not just the newest four — free account: hellsborough.com/signup
