What it is about
Four cozy solo journaling RPGs in one printable PDF bundle: keep an inn, a small-town library, a river ferry or a salt cart for one year. 🕯️ Four quiet years, and one die. An inn on a road, a library in a small town, a ferry on a wide river and a salt cart on a long road — and in each of them somebody is about to turn up with something they want. The four books of the A Year at… series in one download. The same rules, four places, four sets of people, and four different things running out. About twenty minutes an evening, one die, one pen. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🌙 WHAT THIS IS Four complete solo journaling games. In three of them you keep a place for a year and people come to you; in the fourth you drive a salt cart and meet them on the road. Either way, you write down what happened. You play one evening at a time: 🎲 Roll for who turns up. 🎲 Roll for what they want. ✒️ Write three or four lines: what you did, what it cost, and what you did not say. ⚖️ You never roll to find out whether you succeed. The die says what happens. You say what you did about it. There is no failure in these games, only what it cost. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 📦 WHAT YOU GET ▪ 4 books: A Year at the Wayside, A Year at the Lending Library, A Year at the Ferry and A Year on the Salt Road ▪ 648 written entries across 100 tables — every one of them rolled on a single d6 ▪ 16 seasons, four to each book, each with its own people ▪ 48 writing prompts and 12 ending tables ▪ A quiz in every book, answered as yourself instead of rolling, so each year starts with somebody a little like you ▪ 32 journal sheets, eight in every book ▪ 288 cards to cut out, 72 in every book, each with a piece of its season's painting, so you can draw instead of rolling ▪ 16 paintings, one opening every season on a page of its own, and a strip of each across the top of its tables ▪ 140 pages · 16 PDFs Nothing here is a stub. Every table is written out in full. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🗺️ THE FOUR YEARS 🛤️ A YEAR AT THE WAYSIDE You keep an inn on a quiet road. What you are keeping: Stores, Firewood and Goodwill. Four days of nobody, and you start talking to the horses." — the Wayside "Somebody sends word ahead. Nobody has ever done that before." — the Wayside "Somebody returning a book forty-one years overdue. It was their father's. They have brought the fine, in old coins." — the Lending Library "Only to be warm, and to hold a book as the reason for it." — the Lending Library "A bottle comes down the river with a letter inside, and it is addressed to the ferry." — the Ferry "A man coming home from a long way off, who stands at the slip a long time before he pays." — the Ferry "Two children selling water at the top of the long climb, at a price they have clearly just decided." — the Salt Road "You buy a sack of your own salt at full price, and feel foolish, and do not mind." — the Salt Road ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ✨ THIS IS FOR YOU IF ▪ You have played one of these and would like the others ▪ You want a cozy game that still has structure and consequences ▪ This would be your first solo RPG and you want one that explains itself ▪ You keep a journal and want prompts that build on each other instead of starting over ▪ You want quiet evenings that are not a screen, for a good part of a year ▪ You are tired of combat and stat blocks ▪ You own one six-sided die and nothing else, and would like that to be enough ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🎒 WHAT YOU NEED ▪ These books ▪ A pen ▪ One six-sided die ▪ Somewhere quiet That is the list. No second die, no app, and no account. No die at all? Every book has cards at the back to draw instead. Every book is made for one player, and nobody else is needed. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🚫 WHAT IS NOT IN IT No combat. No monsters. No magic. No stat blocks and no character sheet. Nothing here is fought. If something arrives that you cannot solve, you cannot solve it, and you write that down. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 📄 THE FILES Two zip files, one for each paper size, so you only download the one you print on: ▪ A4 — all four books, colour and ink-saver ▪ US Letter — all four books, colour and ink-saver The ink-saver builds drop the tint and the cover paintings, print the season paintings in grey, and keep every word. ⬇️ Instant digital download. Nothing is posted to you. The whole shelf lives at onegoodevening.pages.dev — every adventure and printable, with what is inside each one before you decide. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🕯️ ONE GOOD EVENING Games for a table, and for a chair by the fire.
