What it is about

Stay a little longer. Take one more photograph. Find your way home. Autumn leaves gather beneath the entrance doors. Light spills through a rose window onto an empty dining hall. Somewhere along the corridor, you hear a chair move. You came with a camera and an afternoon to spare. URBEX: Beelitz-Heilstätten is a standalone solo tabletop roleplaying game of exploration, photography, and quiet unease. Explore a fictional autumn at the historic Männersanatorium, the men’s sanatorium within Germany’s Beelitz-Heilstätten complex. Choose your route through overgrown gardens, grand staircases, silent wards, sheltered galleries, and an octagonal bathing hall. Notice the small details that make each place feel lived in. Describe your photographs in your journal and build a collection across return visits. How you play Create an explorer, pack your gear, and choose an intention for the afternoon. Follow the map, manage your Time and Energy, and decide what deserves your attention. Look to establish a subject. Frame it to take a photograph. Linger to discover something you might otherwise have missed. Every photograph contributes to your Archive. Familiar places offer new possibilities when you return with a different angle, changing weather, or a little more patience. The building has its Echoes This installment adds a simple spooky twist to the URBEX rules. Lingering can bring unsettling moments inspired by the rooms’ former uses: distant conversation, a scrape across an empty floor, water heard near a dry basin. As Pressure rises, staying becomes a harder choice. An Echo at Pressure 3 ends exploration for the day. You may have time for one final photograph before heading home. A little wild company The grounds are alive with native woodland animals. Photograph a red squirrel, robin, jay, woodpecker, tawny owl, or common pipistrelle to gain a companion for the outing. Each offers a small, one-use bonus, with encounters suited to the setting and time of day. Inside the 52-page PDF Complete standalone rules, compatible with URBEX Universal Rules v1.0. Eight locations, each with a full-page illustration and local map. An expedition map connecting the pavilion, bathhouse, gardens, and woodland. Twenty-four observation spots. Forty-eight discovery prompts and forty-eight eerie Echoes. Six illustrated wildlife companions. Gear, autumn weather, photography, familiarity, and collection rules. A worked example, quick reference, and three printable record sheets. Historical background, adaptation notes, and linked research sources. What you need One player, one six-sided die, a pencil, and a journal. No game master or previous URBEX installment is required. Your photographs are imagined and recorded through play; no camera is needed. Play a single outing or return over several sessions to assemble a six-image collection. The atmosphere blends quiet exploration, autumn beauty, and gentle supernatural uncertainty. The setting draws on a real place; its encounters and Echoes are fiction. Created by Elijah M.
