What it is about

Panjshir ‘82 is an asymmetric single-player table-top wargame in which you take on the role of a Mujahideen commander fighting the Soviet forces in Afghanistan. Your objectives are: Raise your warband’s combat power, complete a critical attack, and then escape. You will fight and evade the Soviets, but not defeat them. What you need to play: 4x printed pages that make up the game Standard deck of 52 playing cards 3D6 (1 required, but 3 recommended) Pencil or Pen Time to Play: Approximately 45 minutes This is not a wargame in of the traditional hex & counter style: there are limited units on the board and a wide range of dynamic encounters that will make each session unfold differently. The goal is to evoke the aesthetic and feel of the 1979-1989 conflict in Afghanistan. Runner up in Tally-Ho Corner's 2021 Escape & Evasion game jam, this is the 1.3 version with updated rulesets, maps, and encounters. You will command two bands of Mujahideen fighters as they seek to accomplish their objectives within the valley and evade patrolling companies of USSR units. Certain tiles on the map will produce special encounters and choices that aid or hinder the insurgents. Low-Ink variants of all the pages are included, as the art is fairly printer-intensive! A Historical Note: The Mujahideen and Taliban were not the same! The setting of the Panjshir valley was specifically chosen, as it remained a hold-out against the Taliban for many years after the Soviet withdrawal. This game is not about roleplaying or glorifying any kind of Islamic fundamentalist. Want to know more about the conflict's history? Questions about the game? Hop on our discussion board.
