What it is about

A few months ago, I had a dream that I designed a game about communing with a giant squid. I can't remember how the game worked in the dream, so I made up something else! In Colossal , you live in a seaside village. Every few years, for as long as your ancestors and their ancestors can remember, a giant sea creature has come to rest in the waters near your home. It stays for about a week before swimming on to the next village, but while it rests, you can speak to it—and it can communicate back, in its way. (It might communicate through tarot cards, a randomized playlist, tea leaves, or any other divination technique—you choose!) You can play Colossal solo, or with any number of fellow villagers. First, you’ll build your village and create your character(s). Then, each day for seven real-time days, you’ll complete three moments: a Communication with the creature, a Debrief about your experience, and a Consideration of a daily prompt. You’ll end the game with a Commemoration of your experience. Nicole Piar's Vision Seeker tarot course inspired the content of Colossal ; By the Sounding Sea by Ella Martinez and Wickies by Lari Assmuth inspired the vibes. Check them out for more divination and oceanic content! When you purchase Colossal , you'll receive the Seaweed Edition & Coral Edition, (the same game with different color schemes), a text only file (that uses the same format without colors or images), the Atkinson Hyperlegible booklet, and the OpenDyslexic booklet. Sidebar Image Descriptions Image 1: The itch cover for Colossal . The title, in a light grey medieval font, is overlaid on a painting of waves crashing against rocks. Image 2: The first page of the Seaweed Edition of Colossal , featuring that same wave painting. The page provides the Introduction, Gameplay Overview, and Build Your Village sections.
