What it is about

This is a solo rpg journaling, card-crawler hybrid. All you need to jump into the carnage is any standard deck of playing cards, a D6, and pen and paper if you choose to journal your macabre encounters and attempts to undo the webs woven by a mysterious dark cult……good luck, seer. You stand before a dwelling; a dilapidated cottage, an abandoned asylum, burnt-out farmhouse, dark tower, or malevolent manor. There is movement in the darkened windows, this confirms your worst fear, that you must go inside. The reclusive cult of the Shadow Talkers has squatted in many forgotten buildings across Ireland and the UK, performing rituals to the old gods and transforming these damned places into conduits of phantasmic darkness. According to the cults’ manuscripts, attics are where the veils to the other side are thinnest, and easiest to tear. Using their ceremonial shadow-daggers of corrupted steel, they offer candlelit sacrifices, then leave the dagger impaled into the wooden floor, an anchor point for darkness to cross over. Now, the rooms, walls and floors of this building are infested with spirits, from top to bottom. Some were once human, others are demons, elementals or something worse. There is some hope, however. You have those in your bloodline that have passed on to the side of death and offer you support in these spaces, giving you visits of divine assistance. While you cannot fight these ethereal beings, you can hold them at bay with blessed relics you carry deep within your pockets. Two are ancient teeth, which are said to have belonged to a high king of old, gifted to you by a shaman, many moons ago. They may hold off an entity within a room, allowing you to pass unscathed. As you clear each room with burning sage, you must hold your resolve and continue forward towards the attic. You will be pushed, poked, bitten and scratched to all hell, but you must retrieve the dagger and remove the damned object from the property to close the veil. This is based upon games i love such as Scoundrel, Shadow Solitaire, Loot the Loop, Alone Amongst the Stars and Cairn.
