What it is about

Daughters of Baba is a one-page, GMless roleplaying game about witches, identity, and the price of desire. You and your fellow players form a coven, venturing into a dark and hungry forest in search of Baba Yaga. She alone can grant your deepest wish—but the forest will try to unravel who you are before you reach her. The game uses a standard deck of playing cards to create encounters and challenges. Each witch is defined by their suit —Wilds, Bones, Stars, or Curses—and a set of identity lines , short phrases that capture who they are and what they stand to lose. As you struggle against the forest, failures chip away at your identity until you become one of the Lost Daughters , forever claimed by the woods. Encounters are resolved through both strategy and storytelling. Players combine their cards to overcome obstacles, then roleplay how their witches’ choices played out. Every approach has a tone—battle, bypass, befriend, or bargain—pushing your coven to find creative, sometimes conflicting, solutions. The journey ends when the coven is lost to the forest… or when the deck runs dry, and the surviving witches finally arrive at Baba Yaga’s hut to face her judgment. Quick Facts Players: 2–4 (or solo with journaling rules) Playtime: 1 session (prompt-based) or a few sessions (roleplay-based) Themes: Horror, tragedy, identity, the bonds of a coven Materials Needed: A 52-card deck, pen and paper Will you reach Baba Yaga and have your wish granted—or will the forest strip away everything that makes you you ?
