What it is about

What's Happening in Farm Valley? Congratulations! You have inherited a derelict farm near a small town. Over the course of a year, you will settle into life there, improving the property, exploring the environment, getting to know the townsfolk, establishing a business, and celebrating it all. A Year in Farm Valley is a GM-less roleplaying game for one or more players. All you need to play is a 6-sided die, a deck of playing cards, writing materials, and this booklet. With those, you will tell the story of your new life and draw a map of the area you explore. A Year in Farm Valley can take place in a setting as realistic or as fanciful as you like. Is this a modern farm in the country you live in? Is it somewhere else or in an earlier time? Perhaps quasi-historical or steampunk? You could even play in a fantasy, post-apocalyptic, solarpunk, or science fiction setting. It's your farm—you decide! In content, A Year in Farm Valley is inspired by the video game Stardew Valley and the letter-writing game Grandpa’s Farm . In format, it is inspired by A Weekend in the Country and the Foretold series , prompt-based narrative roleplaying games. The mapping component is inspired by Companions’ Tale . This game requires no game master and works for 1-6 players. It typically takes 1-3 hours to play, depending on the number of players and how many cards per season you use. Although it is intended to portray a single year, if you really like your story and wish to continue it, extending the game beyond one session is as simple as adding more cards.
