What it is about

The seasons change. The trees have gone from full to dim to barren. Pale frost covers the land more and more. You should be with your pack, hunting and wandering and keeping warm together. But something went wrong. Fire came from the sky. Then the fire was in the trees. Then it was everywhere. Your pack scattered and fled the danger. Somehow you were able to scramble away. You hope others escaped as well. You hope to find them again. You can track and hunt and forage, though you have not had to do so by yourself for a long time. But you are not quite alone. Someone else fled the danger from the sky, but they are not like you. It walks up on hind legs, covers itself in the furs and fangs of other beasts, and though like you it fled the great fire that raged through the forest it knows how to make its own little flames to keep warm. You have seen its kind before, slow and weak compared to you but also resilient and resourceful. Usually best to be avoided when they settle and overspread a place. Both of you are used to spending your days surrounded by your own kind. Surviving the winter alone may be an insurmountable challenge. Perhaps you can survive alone together. Alone Together is a solo journaling game played primarily from the perspective of a prehistoric grey wolf, and periodically switching to the perspective of a prehistoric human (or whatever sort of beast and nomad you choose to imagine).  By day you turn over story prompt cards and contemplate life as a wild animal surviving a harsh winter; by night you sketch something significant about the day's adventures, just as ancient peoples once left their mark on the walls of caves and shelters depicting rough sketches of flora and fauna and themselves. The medium of the art is up to you: sketchbook and pencils, digital art programs, paint on canvas, or perhaps lean into the theme with charcoal or sidewalk chalk.  Whatever medium you choose, don’t worry too much about detail or precision; what’s important is to evoke how you feel about the day’s events via something you personally created.
