The Reward (Demo)

THE BEGINNING … It all began with the war against the Xhaa in quadrant VII, spongiform beings capable of regenerating and multiplying at unimaginable rates. Despite the technological superiority of the Empire, the impressive number of the Xhaa caused many problems and the army began to suffer huge losses. To make up for the losses, the Sacred Engineers of the Forge were tasked with building thinking mechanical beings, humanoid-shaped machines capable of acting autonomously. After the first clashes, these machines proved defective; they rebelled against their creators and built their own empire in quadrant IV. The metaborgs were born. In that disastrous era, with two enemies to face, the colonies of the III quadrant, following the Heresy of the New Advent, decided the time had come to claim their independence, opening a third front. The losses multiplied. The Empire's first attempt to cope with the losses was to increase births; the Priestesses midwives of Ailee, the now forgotten goddess of fertility, took care of it; but their efforts proved in vain. The time to bring the unborn to be effective soldiers was too long. With troops increasingly scarce, the Empire and the human race were in danger of succumbing. It was then that the Technoalchemists created the Blessing. THE BLESSING For over a thousand years the Legionaries have been fighting, falling in battle and coming back to life: there is no wound that cannot be healed, there is no limb that cannot be reattached. For over a thousand years, in the Barracks-Cathedrals, during sacred rites, soldiers have prayed for the Great Reward: to be admitted into the Host of Heroes and enjoy Eternal Sleep. To achieve this they must have a glorious death, make an extreme sacrifice, a sensational victory. They must succeed before their very conscience is obliterated, their memory annihilated, their ego consumed; before being assigned to the X Legion. THE X LEGION The X Legion is made up of soldiers who have totally lost their memory of who they were. No more men, just shells, incapable of any social interaction, of any feeling, they fight because they have to, because I don't know anything else. The Reward is a solitaire role-playing journaling game. This is a demo, i.e. the initial 15 pages of the full version.
