What it is about
A 1-4 player board game about the flow of conversations, where the cards do the talking. As a group of average Canadians engaging in everyday conversation, can you work together to have everyone say their piece? Silent Signals was originally created as a solo school project over 4 months of blood, sweat and tears (and a lot of re-printing and re-cutting and re-sleeving) in Fall 2025. It was first pitched as a game to teach neurodivergent teenagers aged 14-18 about interpersonal negotiation. Although this project evolved into something a little different, negotiation is absolutely still a big part of the cooperative gameplay, along with its mechanics around non-verbal language and social awareness. The v0.5 packet includes instructions for a fully playable single-player mode where your conversation partner is a Chaos Goblin, as well as reflection questions for your team to discuss after finishing a round. The multiplayer version may not be super balanced as a "game game", but I created it as a critical game, to teach, to change, and to inspire my players to view the world with a little more empathy. I hope you enjoy my work. Note: Although I am excited to finally share Silent Signals with the world, I must stress that the v0.5 packet and its demo video are only a prototype. I plan to keep working on improving the base game, and I also hope to eventually create expansions based around different cultural norms, roleplaying the card descriptions, and a customizable personalities/deck builder mode, but nothing concrete yet.
