What it is about

DECOHERENCE is a solo, procedural, accessible TTRPG about xeno-biology and surviving on a strange, new alien planet. Oh — and you've been infested with an alien symbiote who wants to share your consciousness. Find your way back to base without starving, being killed by the flora and fauna, or going insane as you fail to cohere with your symbiote. Illustrations by ZEZI Key Features: Quick to start - a playable prologue eases you into the rules and basically gets you rolling dice from the first page of the book. Minimal necessary gear: DECO is designed around only needing a couple of printed sheets, a large handful of D6, and a notebook. There's plenty of possibility space for journaling and making a hexmap but the whole game plays just fine without either. Digestible! DECO isn't going to take months of your life to play - stuff happens quickly and various difficulty modes make it easy to shorten or extend a campaign to your tastes. Active backstory: beyond a handful of quick starting rolls, your amnesiac character and their backstory take shape while you play. DIY - or let the procedural backstory system reveal who you really are. The OODA Loop : when you encounter a creature, you don't just have to bash it with a stick. Using the Observe, Orient, Decide & Act system, you (almost) always have a tactical choice whether to attack or try and peacefully evade, with different challenges and rewards for each. DECO is currently a free-to-download prototype. You get all the core rules and the whole first Zone (out of three, total) — I'm a narrative designer in the games industry ( more about me here ) and this is a passion side-project , so all I want is for people to play it and give me feedback. As times goes on, I'll flesh out and release the other two zones and expand a couple of tables. If you help me playtest it, you'll get all the future updates/the full game for free. I'm also looking for collaborators, specifically an artist/layout designer. Join the discord and feedback on the game! , and help make this into something special. (Obvious proviso: everything is a WIP - the doc will slowly update with more art, polish, and content as times goes on) Follow the Substack for news and updates!
