What it is about
If you witness this tablet, you are the new Face of Lord Gilgamesh, Lugal of Uruk, He who sees the Unknown, Surpasser of all Kings, [etc.]. Congratulations are in order! Since our Lord’s Figure has descended upon you, time is short. Misfortune soon descends upon us. Prepare with all speed, so you may best save the People. –(Fictional) Excerpt from a cuneiform tablet found in Uruk Inspired by the civilization-building games like Civilization and Humankind that feature a Leader that personifies the culture, this Community-building Tabletop Roleplaying game as the 1-5 players each plays a character made of two parts. These are the Face, a normal everyday person, and the Figure, a historical or mythical figure that has become integral to the legends of the one of the Community's culture and returns to share the body of a Face when the Community is in need. Each uses their ties to their Community to improve it and, in turn, are empowered as the Community develops. Legacy's Mantle can be played as a oneshot or solo experience, but is optimized for group campaign play. It features an opposed pool dice system with simple math, descriptive rather than stat-based characters, and a tetrinomo-like grid system to track improvements to the Community. What do I need to play this game? Between 1-5 players 8 dice. Ideally, you should have two distinctive groups of 4 dice each. 10-sided dice will work better, but rules for using 6-sided dice are provided 1 deck of playing cards, tarot cards, or Uno cards You’ll need the numbered cards (Ace to 10, 1 to 10, or 0 to 9) from 4 different suits or colors. A set of tokens or scratch paper to track Myth Points 1 Character Sheet for each player 1 Community Sheet for the group What is an Ashcan? This means that some elements are still being tested and additional elements will be integrated at a later date. Plans currently exist to integrate the following: A setting-building system that will allow you to create your starting Community and characters at the same time. (in the mean time, you are welcome to check out Tales of a City or The Tutelary Society for a similar city-building experience) Improved layout and art. More examples and and graphics to improve rule explanations. Links to at least one video explaining the basics of the rules. At least one pre-made setting complete with tailored tables to help facilitize randomized community and character creation. An SRD to make it easier to make hacks of the game.
