What it is about
Welcome to Garden Bugs ! A competitive bug-building strategy game for 1-5 players. Games typically last ~30 mins solo and ~45 mins for 2 players. My family loves to play the 'span games, and with my sons' obsession with bugs these days, I decided to try to make my own. However, I didn't want it to just be a replica, so I've tried to create a unique experience. Build a thriving garden by playing patches and bugs, generating resources, and completing goals. After 5 rounds, the player with the most points from goals, bugs, and resources wins. When playing solo, try to set the high score! Play solo or with friends Small table presence How to play video: Coming Soon Garden Bugs is a bug-themed engine building (PnP) game for 1-5 players. Components include a rulebook, bug cards, patch cards, goal cards, tokens, and a player board. Placeholder artwork is edited stock, but I plan to keep the watercolour theme if the game ever gets published. Bug Cards x45 (+ card back on final page) Flip Bug Cards x9 (double-sided – no card back) Patch Cards x25 (+ card back on final page) Goal Cards x36 (+ card back on final page) Resource Tokens + First-Player Token (double-sided) Player Boards (3×3 garden grid) Turn Tracker Squares (or use cubes / dice / tokens) ( Post a shot of your table after playing to Reddit to join in!) 37 Points by ianthedad 18 Points by OmegaKai_22 ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? Hard to track turns and rounds: added numbered tracker and round stack to player boards Decay icon similar to bug points icon: decay icon changed to a bone Double resource patches feel too strong: reduced all patches to 1 resource and buffed all bug resources Easy round goals give no reason to play more bugs: added bug points to all bugs so playing them is always worth it More social mechanics: added an end-of-round flea market where players can gain extra bugs Difficult to read text on full art patch cards: added solid-colour backdrop to make patch text easier to read Forage feels like the strongest engine: rebalanced the starter set bugs to contain ~10 of each engine mechanic and will expand from there Cutting the cards was difficult: added cut lines to all cards I want to print the cards double-sided with a back: added cardbacks for all card types Flip cards are difficult to print double-sided: moved all flip cards to a separate PDF to be printed double-sided It's difficult to know who goes first: added a fun little mechanic where the longest-lifespan bug revealed at the start of the game goes first, as well as a First-Player Token Need shorter version of the rules: added a one-page quick-play guide Lots of unused resources at the end: leftover resources now count towards final score Slow start: players select 3 resources each on game start Draw engine feels weaker than the rest: instead of draw 1, draw 2 and keep 1 Lack of removed pile interaction bugs: will be added in the next bug expansion
