What it is about
A CAT, ADRIFT is a solo journaling TTRPG about a cat making its way back home to its family. Played with a deck of cards, you explore memories about your life and the family you are returning to. You will explore, remember, and reflect as you make your way back home to the family that has given you shelter. This is a single-page, foldable zine. You have to fold it on your own, sorry. You can find instructions here . I cut my teeth on solo journaling games early in my game design journey. There have been several new and fun and innovative iterations on the solo journaling experience (using block towers, timers, digital platforms, etc.) that are doing such cool stuff. I wanted to harken back to a more streamlined game using a deck of cards and the zine. I am a new cat dad too, I guess. Even though I've had this cat 5 years now, I didn't grow up with cats. So I still feel new to it. He came to us during Covid-19 lockdown, found on the streets of our neighborhood, and I have been totally enamored with him for so long. A Cat, Adrift is an idea on the opposite end, of an elder cat who has lived their lives on the street but has found a brief respite with a pair of humans. Gameplay-wise: You are a cat exploring your world. There is a set of cards set in front of you to explore, but you're not exploring a neighborhood, you are exploring past memories you have. (If you are new to my games, I love poking at feelings a LOT.) Your choice of cards will help determine what type of feeling you have of your memory and then also which sense it triggers (e.g., sight, sound, smell, taste). You will reflect on these memories as you make your way back home to your new family. It's a lovely, little exploration, focused less on what and where you are exploring physically and more on the internal landscape of who you are.
