What it is about
Hero's Log A system-agnostic solo narrative roleplaying framework built around discov ery, storytelling, and living worlds. Create heroes. Explore adventures. Uncover mysteries. Build relationships. Watch your world change. Ask Questions. Follow Consequences. Discover the Story. What Is Hero's Log? Hero's Log is a genre-neutral solo roleplaying framework designed to help you discover stories through play. You don't need to know how the story ends. You don't need to prepare an entire campaign. You don't need a Game Master. Start with a character, a situation, and a question. Then let the story develop. Hero's Log can be played on its own using the Hero's Log Oracle, or combined with your favorite RPG system. Why Hero's Log? There are already excellent solo RPG tools available, including Mythic. Hero's Log isn't designed to replace them. It approaches solo roleplaying from a different direction. Mythic asks: How do I emulate the Game Master? Hero's Log asks: How do I discover the story? “Mythic is fundamentally a Game Master Emulator, providing tools for answering questions, generating uncertainty, and managing the evolving adventure.” Hero's Log begins with uncertainty too, but focuses on what happens after the answer. A question produces an answer. The answer creates a consequence. The consequence creates a story thread. That thread can become a relationship, mystery, recurring character, conflict, adventure, story arc, or even an entire season. Hero's Log isn't just about finding out what happens next. It's about discovering what the story becomes. Play to Discover Hero's Log is built around one central idea: Play to discover. Don't script the entire adventure before you begin. Ask questions. Accept uncertainty. Follow consequences. Let unexpected results become new possibilities. The core loop is simple: Scene → Question → Resolution → Consequence → Next Scene A failed action can create a new rival. A minor character can become an important ally. A seemingly insignificant clue can become the foundation of an entire adventure. The story grows because of what happens during play. What Makes Hero's Log Different? Hero's Log expands solo play beyond resolving individual scenes. Character Build stories around what your hero wants, fears, believes, and struggles with. Story Track developing problems, mysteries, conflicts, and story threads. World Create communities, organizations, factions, locations, and events that continue to exist beyond the current scene. Relationships Let allies, rivals, enemies, mentors, and supporting characters develop naturally over time. Campaigns Choose or discover the campaign structure that fits your story, from episodic adventures to serialized campaigns, journeys, team stories, and long-form narratives. Arcs & Seasons Allow individual adventures to grow into larger arcs and complete seasons. Hero's Log is designed to help a story grow organically from play. Use It With Your Favorite RPG Hero's Log is system-agnostic. You can use it with: Your favorite tabletop RPG An existing character An original character A genre-specific RPG Another solo system Or Hero's Log by itself The framework doesn't tell you what kind of story to play. You decide the world. You decide the hero. Hero's Log helps you discover what happens. What's Included in Core?
