What it is about
Roots on the Plains is a solo journaling game set in the small towns and farm country of the American plains. One player. One deck of cards. One six-sided die. Something to write in. Each session you draw three cards. The suit tells you what territory you're in — the past, the people, the work, or the land. The card value tells you what's happening there. You write the rest. The game moves the way memory moves: not in order, not neatly. It will send you back to a one-room schoolhouse and forward to a Tuesday in 2031 when something in the accounting practice finally makes sense. It will put the King of Clubs on the table eventually. When it does, you'll know what it means. What's inside: A complete card mechanic with individual prompts for every card value (Ace through Joker) Four suits mapping to four territories: The Past, The People, The Work, The Land Seasonal prompt cards for all four seasons, plus two special historical entries The Moving Rule — a d6 mechanic for the moves that shaped her Five oracle categories with dozens of plains-specific entries: Weather & Sky, The Town, What She Feels, Object Found, On the Road The Grandma Chronicles variant — play from the far end of the map, looking back A printable character sheet with Memory Track A quick reference page to keep open while you play Who this is for: Women who grew up in small towns and carry them around. Anyone who has a place they think about more than they expected to. People who like their fiction to feel true. Journaling game players looking for something rooted in real American geography rather than fantasy or gothic settings. You don't have to be from the plains. But if you are, you'll recognize every oracle entry. What you need: One standard deck of playing cards (jokers included) · One six-sided die · A journal · A pen
