What it is about
Solo Toxic Neon Lord
Compatible with Lords of the Toxic Wasteland
This solo book is a slight departure from my usual style. Rather than focusing on playing a couple of characters and emulating the GM and outside events, I feel that this game works best solo when you play the GM role and use the dice to emulate what the player characters would do.
The reason for this reversal is twofold.
Firstly, Neon Lords of the Toxic Wasteland is a game with many subsystems and random elements. The pacing is better when you play this style of game as the GM because virtual characters have infinite patience and will wait indefinitely, so you can make use of every bell and whistle that the game offers.
Secondly, this game is hugely dependent on style. A game's style is not something that can be found in random tables or prompt words, it has to be conveyed by the GM. Playing GM first lets you really enjoy the craziness of the toxic wastelands universe and trowel the style on as thick as you like.
Because of this swapping of position from player to GM, most of the regular solo rules have had to be tweaked and much of the soloing advice has been flipped around.
