What it is about
Space derelicts: space craft and space stations that wander through the inky blackness of the outer reaches of the Galaxy sometimes drift toward to the more occupied inner arms awaiting discovery by unwary travellers and explorers.
They all come from somewhere though.
Buried in their computer logs is a vast and rich history that charts their origins. Maybe they started out life as a multi-generational colonization ship that launched one thousand years ago. Their occupants succumbed to a virus leaving only skeletal remains behind, and an increasing tangle of arachnid webs where there should be none. A subsequent explosion in the fuel storage destroyed one third of the ship and sent it hurtling on a new course through the Galaxy. But where did it go to? Did anyone else come on board in that time period of drifting? What did the fates dictate over the centuries and millennia that followed? And how exactly did the reclamation team manage to open the old hatches to gain entry to this ancient monument to pre-faster than light space travel? And what precisely are causing those electronic pings coming from the command deck?
This volume is an attempt to address these points - and more - by provide a sketch of the plotted history of a space derelict. This is done through a presentation a suite of d66 tables. These tables provide not only a description of the origin of the space derelict and its evolution, but a potential gold mine (sometimes a very literal gold mine) of plot hooks that a keen-eyed Games Master can readily take advantage of.
