What it is about
Magic, in all its forms, is a double-edged blade. For every miracle it performs—mending wounds, summoning flame, whispering across realms—it may carry side effects, ripple consequences, or even birth new afflictions. Magical illnesses, both chronic and sudden, plague adventurers, spellcasters, and even entire towns. Some are caused by cursed relics, others from overexposure to arcane forces, and a few… simply exist, defying all explanation.
This supplement offers 100 magical maladies, each with evocative symptoms. They can be used as roleplaying flavor, quest hooks, or obstacles that challenge players to think beyond steel and fire. Some are bizarre, others horrifying, and a few dangerously beautiful. The origin of these illnesses may be divine punishment, unstable ley lines, magical misfires, or exposure to ancient, forgotten entities.
Example: A wizard complains of whispering teeth and wakes to find every molar humming in a different key. The local healer diagnoses them with “Chorus Maw,” a minor arcane infection spread via shared spellbooks.
As always, you’re not bound to the roll—feel free to select entries that suit your narrative or reroll to discover a new magical affliction.
