What it is about
Ride Alone into a realm of mythic chivalry
The paladins are quiet. The gaming table is empty.
The world of Charlemagne is still waiting.
Durandal Solo Mode lets you play out your own chanson when there is no group, no Game Master, only you and a knight standing before impossible vows. This is a solo oracle and rules booklet for Durandal A Game of Mythic Chivalry, where Effort replaces dice and Passions drag you toward glory, sacrifice, or ruin.
You play a single knight riding from the Court of Aix la Chapelle into haunted passes, border marches, and war torn valleys. The oracle deck answers your questions, sets the weight of your trials, and wraps every result in relics, saints, betrayal, and visions of grace or doom.
When you draw a card, you do not just get a number. You get a stanza.
Each card gives you
A graded answer Yes, No, or Maybe
A Difficulty Rating that sets how hard the task truly is
An Event and Descriptor that show what happens in the scene
A Name, Place, Item, and Emotion to populate your story
A Wild Card twist that crashes into your plans
A Supernatural Sign that reveals when saints, ghosts, fae or giants walk beside you
You bid Effort instead of rolling. You compare your total to the card’s Difficulty Rating and read the result as Critical Success, Success, Success with a Condition, Failure, or Critical Miss. The oracle then shows you how that result lands. Does a demon saint offer aid for a price Does a relic bleed fresh blood Does a battle saint ride at your side only to vanish when the smoke clears
Passions of Virtue, Faith, Duty, and Temptation can tilt the story when you lean into them. You can burn bright for a moment of triumph, cling to an oath at terrible cost, or fall for a tempting shortcut that will mark your song forever.
Inside you will find
Complete solo rules for Durandal, using Effort and Difficulty Ratings instead of dice
Guidance for reading the oracle cards in play, including Wild Card twists and Supernatural Signs
A starting situation generator that builds your first quest entirely from drawn cards
Examples of play that show how to turn draws into vivid scenes, scars, and victories
