What it is about
You're the curator of a museum that displays artifacts from ancient lost civilizations from around the world. Your responsibility is not just to preserve these artifacts but to weave their tales, piece together mysteries, and curate themed collections of artifacts. As your collection grows, so too does your understanding of humanity, and perhaps yourself as well. Every artifact tells a story. Together, they reveal the hopes, fears, triumphs, and tragedies of people long forgotten. As your museum grows, you'll discover that every lost civilization, whether real, mythical, or entirely imagined, has something to teach those willing to listen. Museum of Civilizations Lost is less of a game and more of a solo journaling experience. However, instead of strictly writing journal entries, you create museum exhibits that answer a number of questions and leave a few more. While this game can be played using real historical cultures and legendary civilizations, it also serves as a powerful worldbuilding tool for writers, game masters, and storytellers. By stepping into the role of a museum curator, you'll naturally explore the many facets of a society, not just its rulers and wars, but its food, music, beliefs, relationships, technology, art, celebrations, and everyday life. Each artifact asks a simple question: What would survive after an entire civilization disappeared? As you answer that question again and again, seemingly ordinary objects begin to reveal extraordinary stories. A cooking pot may hint at trade routes. A wedding ring may uncover forgotten traditions. A child's toy might become the only surviving clue to an empire's values. Whether you're building the history of a fantasy kingdom, a science-fiction world, or an entirely original civilization, your museum collection becomes a window into the people who once lived there. By the time your galleries are full, you'll have created not only a compelling museum, but a rich, believable culture whose legacy lives on through the objects it left behind. What You Need to Play All you need to play is something to write with and on (virtual is fine but a physical journal is even better).
