What it is about
Someone has to keep the pass open at night. Tonight, that's you. Night Plow on Hollin Pass is a solo journaling game for one player. You drive an old orange snowplow up a mountain road after dark, twelve mileposts to the summit turnaround and back, and try to bring the truck home by dawn. Along the way you write about the snow, the truck, the radio voices, the stranded travelers on the shoulder, and the things you think about when nobody else is awake for miles. And on the worst nights, some drivers say they see someone walking the shoulder. What you need A standard deck of playing cards (jokers optional) One six-sided die A notebook and pen, or a keyboard, or a voice recorder About an hour per shift, depending on how much you write What's inside Simple rules: draw a card each milepost, answer a prompt, and keep an eye on two tracks, Truck and Storm 49 card prompts plus three Walker sightings across four suits: In the Cab, The Snow, The Truck, and Others on the Pass The Walker : three escalating sightings and a d6 table of answers about who they really are Character setup tables: why you took the job, the charm on your mirror, and who's on the radio Summit Turnaround and Radio Call tables (jokers become radio calls) Three ending tables: Dawn at the Depot, Pass Closed, and Ditched. No ending is a death; this is a game about the night, not about dying in the snow A winter of shifts : rules for playing many nights in a row with the same driver, plus a Between Shifts table A full example of play Accessibility notes: ways to play without writing, without cards, in large print, or with a screen reader A one-page quick reference (setup, each turn, card effects, and endings) A printable shift sheet with tracks and mileposts Content notes and guidance for setting your own limits Format One self-contained HTML file. Open it in any web browser to read it on screen, or print it (it has a built-in print layout for US Letter). No internet connection, fonts, or apps needed. Tone Quiet, lonely, a little eerie, sometimes cozy. You decide how dark it gets. Content notes: isolation, darkness and cold, minor vehicle slides and breakdowns (no one has to be hurt), grief and people who have died, an uncanny figure seen at night, an ex-partner (one optional table result). AI disclosure: The text of this game was drafted with generative AI and checked so every table is complete and playable. The cover art is an SVG drawing that was also written by AI. The setting, characters, rules, and prompts are original to this game and do not come from any other game, book, or film. Printing for your own personal play is welcome. Please don't redistribute the file; point friends here instead. Published by Jarvis Ross. Questions: jarviss.ross@gmail.com
