What it is about
The Lost Cartomancer You've wandered into a new city and found yourself at an abandoned house. On the table, a note that tells you that you are now the city's new Cartomancer-a fortune-teller who uses playing cards to give advice, divine the future, and maybe even work some magic! The only problem is that what you know about cards is confined to a few hazy games of Go Fish from your childhood. What to do? Thankfully, you also have some help from the previous Cartomancer's notes, a house spirit (if you can find a way to get along), and a few other folks around town. Can you build your skills as a card-reader, help the people of the city, and maybe even discover what happened to the Lost Cartomancer along the way? ♥️♣️♦️♠️ The Lost Cartomancer is a solo RPG journaling game that puts you into the role of cartomancer in a strange city. Through the course of the game, you learn how to do real cartomancy (fortune-telling by reading playing cards) through helping the local city residents with their problems. You’ll start with simple questions and work your way up to more complex readings, including a reading that lets you use the entire deck of cards. You’ll also learn a little bit about using cards to craft magic spells and sigils, too. The system in the workbook is designed to accompany the book 54 Devils , which provides a detailed look at playing card reading in folklore and practice, but you can use the game even without the book (there’s an abbreviated version of the book in the back of the workbook to help you). Over the course of nine phases, you gain new skills, allies, tools, and knowledge to help you become the best cartomancer you can be. Along the way you’ll: Pick up card-reading skills based on suits, colors, and numbers Learn different card reading spreads (layouts) to help you answer specific questions See how cards can be used to work spells and craft sigils (magic marks) Combine playing cards with other divination methods Connect cards to plants, animals, and forge spirit alliances with card spirits through your card log Develop a city map and learn about your new home and its residents Additionally, there are a few mysteries within the story for you to solve, too! (Just what did happen to that last cartomancer?) To use this game all you need are: The workbook A journal or place to write and draw A deck of cards (any standard deck with 52 cards and 2 jokers) A metal key (optional) The game moves at your own pace, and you can replay it to gain new insights and skills through different iterations of the play. If you’ve ever wanted to learn a little more about reading playing cards (or any kind of divination) but learn best by playing and doing, this guided journaling game is a great way to get started. So come to the city, bring your cards, and get started today! © New World Witchery 2025 All artwork contained herein is (c) 2021-2025 by Cory Thomas Hutcheson or licensed through Canva.com and may not be used for commercial reproductions of any kind without express written permission (unless otherwise noted).
