What it is about
Time Ends in 2099 is a letter writing micro-game for two time travelers. As it stands, Time will End in the year 2099. However, you both have access to a (notoriously unreliable) time machine, which can send you to a random year between 100 and 2099 AD. Will you use it to Fix Time, or to make the best of what's left of it? To play the game, both players need the following: - a twenty-sided die; - two ten-sided dice; - a coin; - a way to exchange (physical or virtual) letters; - the game rules (available below) If you don't have any dice handy, you can use a website such as rolladie.net . For historical inspiration, we recommend Wikipedia's List of Years , Timeline of Art , and Timeline of Architecture pages. As the game takes place at random moments in history, any number of themes might come up. We recommend using a safety tool such as Lines and Veils to exclude any themes that either player might be uncomfortable with before starting play. You can adjust the recommended game length of 8 letters for a shorter or longer game, if you like. We recommend a fixed endpoint for your first game. Time Ends in 2099 was inspired by This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone, a splendid epistolary time travel novella. Go read it if you haven't.
