What it is about
100 Detailed Discoveries To Bring Your Dungeons to Life with Flavor, Dread, and Mystery!
100 Oddities, Treasures, and Horrors to Discover in a Dungeon is a system-neutral Game Master’s resource packed with 100 atmospheric entries – each a vivid discovery hidden in the forgotten corners of any dungeon – including magic items, armaments, remnants and remains, oddities, and horrors. Every entry is written in 2–4 sentences and designed to be dropped into play with minimal prep – perfect for filling an empty corridor, corrupting a treasure hoard, or seeding a narrative hook into the bones of your dungeon.
Examples of discoveries:
3. Mimic – False Well: Set into the dungeon floor is a stone well, encircled with aged mortar and capped with a rusted iron grate, half-wrenched open. From its depths, a muffled voice echoes upward—panicked, weak, and unmistakably human: “Help! I fell—please, anyone!” A perceptive or scrutinizing character may notice that the plea repeats at irregular intervals, shifting slightly in cadence and tone, with strange gaps between words and odd, wet clicks that do not belong in human speech. They might also notice no rope or bucket is present, and the surrounding dust is undisturbed—no tracks lead to the well, only away from it in a jagged, drag-marked pattern. The moment someone peers too close or reaches in, the stones lurch forward with sudden hunger as the mimic’s tooth-ringed gullet snaps shut with monstrous force.
86. Procession of Skeletal Prisoners: Six skeletal figures shuffle forward in synchronized steps—two abreast, bound at the wrists and ankles with rusted iron manacles and a length of chain that clinks with each dragging pace. Each garbed in rotted prisoner’s tunics, their postures are hunched and slouched, skulls bowed as if in shame or exhaustion, and no spark of malice or cunning stirs in their hollow sockets. When they encounter the party, the skeletons cease marching and turn their heads in perfect unison, tracking each movement with eerie precision. However, after a tense pause, they make no move to attack and simply continue their ceaseless march deeper into the dark.
