What it is about
The Lost & Found Book is a free solo journaling game. The mechanic is one line long: each session, you write one thing lost and one thing found, side by side. That is all. The pair is the artifact. No dice. No cards. No character sheet. No map. No world. Just the pair. --- What's inside - 132 prompt pairs across six categories — Objects, People, Moments, Selves, Weathers, Words - Six sample entries from six different players, each using a different category - Five ways to play — a single sitting, an ongoing notebook, an anniversary book, a shared book, an occasion book - A session card to tear out or photocopy — everything the game asks, on one page - A blank entry template — for those who prefer to write inside the book - An index by mood — for the evenings when a specific kind of quiet is needed - 45 pages. Free. Forever. Who this is for - Anyone who has ever noticed the specific shape of a thing that used to be there - Anyone who keeps notebooks - Anyone who thinks they aren't a writer and is - Anyone who thinks they aren't a writer and is quietly wrong about that - Households that grieve well. Households that need to. - Reading groups. Wakes. Going-away parties. Hospital stays. Good years and bad ones. What this is not - Not a healing book. If you are grieving something large, this book will not fix it, and no honest book would claim to. - Not a memoir prompt. The things you write do not have to have happened. - Not a spiritual practice. It is a small structured writing game. Play requirements - A pen and a page - Five minutes - No one watching, unless you have chosen otherwise --- Also from Hearth & Quill Press If this small book found you at a useful moment, we make longer ones too. The Vanished Atlas Cycle — three solo journaling RPGs about places that are not on maps — is the most natural next step, and often on sale at the top of our itch page. Others: The Hearthkeeper , The Lighthouse Keeper , The Forest Keeper , An Almanac of the Small Country , KINDRED . --- Community There is a comment thread on this page. If you played the book and something in it worked, we would love to know and a Rating would really help us improve. You do not need to write much. A single pair — one lost, one found — would be more than enough.
