What it is about
In ancient times, when great dragons roamed, and greater knights slew them, making a fortune was as easy as breathing. Fortunately for us, they took it to the grave. ~ Gildor Greentooth, Dungeoneer TIME TO DIE is a pulpy, classic fantasy, rules-lite RPG for 1+ players that utilizes a single d6 die for all resolutions including GM tables . Play is fast, swingy, and just a little ridiculous as the players engage in activities like treasure hunting, creature slaying, dungeon diving, investigating mysteries, recovering lost relics, and likely being a general menace to the world around them. This 40 page document includes: The classic 6 Attributes (STR, DEX, CON, INT, WIS, CHA) Familiar races like Elves and Dwarves , but also a a new one taken from Dragonbane: Wolfkin Classes with Talents that provide bonus abilities your PC can engage with 12 single-word skills inspired by World of Dungeons to provide small bonuses to what your PC is good at doing 3 schools of magic, each with 12 level-less spells , where power is based on what you are willing to risk, and how well you cast A Wounds system for PC and NPC health, making health meaningful rather than a nebulous system of "hit protection." Successfully dealing damage always inflicts at least 1 wound , with all NPC's and enemies only having a maximum of 6 . Advancemen t based around what you do, accomplish, or uncover rather than simply Gold for XP, encouraging the party to focus on character or party goals and missions A universal Resolution Mechanic where you roll d6+ATR+Bonus versus 6 for all actions, including combat, damage, and saves. This includes an exploding die mechanic whenever you roll a 6 , adding bonuses to negotiations, weapon attacks, magic effects, and damage inflicted. A Schrödinger's supply mechanic where you have Rations, Medicine, Ammo, and Gear as a generalized supply counter. Each time you use them, you roll to see if it depletes. Your inventory must still hold anything you pull out, however. A Serious Injury table you roll on instead of dying at 0 HP. Going to 0 may kill you, but it may not. A small set of Camping rules to provide more to do during the camping phase of travel than just an encounter check such as hunting, cooking, treating wounds, or even prepping for tomorrow's journey. Additionally, the game includes extensive GM and solo-supported oracles to make the game fast and easy to run without prior prep: A simple " watches " form of travel, making determining travel distance and time easy to calculate Rules for how to handle travel risks like sleep deprivation, weather, or disease. A full Travel Events set of tables to allow you to build encounters on the fly, including hazards, discoveries, who or what you encountered, and what it is doing A full Kin Details table to fill in just who this person is A simple Mapping set of tables to randomly generate features, as well as what the terrain looks like at an encounter A table for generating a quick settlement A full Dungeon Generating set of tables to determine what it is, why it is there, who is inside, and what the layout looks like. Full exploration tables including events, traps, features, and room appearance for 6 archetypes: Arcane Tower, Cavern, Fortress, Ruins, Temple, and Tomb A full random list of Treasures to find, including the extremely rare magic items A Bestiary using a unified Enemy Level system where you can determine what level the enemy is, and then simply read across to get their attributes 6 examples for each of the 6 enemy types: Animals, Creatures, Monsters, Kin, Undead, and Horrors Finally, a full list of solo rules for the person who wishes to try and run this game by themselves: A Failure table Odds Table Action+Attribute+Thing tables Weather Table Adventure Generator NPC Names and Details Solo combat rules And more! The game is best played as short, tightly focused one-shots that either last a single session, or short mini-campaigns averaging around 5 to 10 sessions. It shines as a palette cleanser for larger, denser games as it requires less investment by both players and GM alike. So go grab your beers and fill your bowl with pretzels; the dungeon awaits!
