What it is about

A Solo Roleplaying Game of Love, Duty, Scandal, and Ruin The gaslamps burn low. A letter is torn in two. A name whispered in a drawing room becomes tomorrow’s headline. This is Edwardian England — 1901 to 1914 — an age of elegance, hypocrisy, and heartbreak. In Edwardian Melodrama , you take the role of a man or woman whose life teeters between respectability and disgrace. With nothing more than a deck of cards and your own words, you will tell their story: from the first whisper of scandal to the final monologue before the curtain falls. How It Works The game unfolds across three acts , mirroring the structure of the Edwardian stage: Act I: Shadows of Society – Introduce your world, relationships, and the first hints of scandal. Act II: The Breaking Point – Passions flare, rivals act, and secrets are exposed. Act III: The Fall or Redemption – Confession, catastrophe, or bittersweet survival. Each card you draw provides a prompt — a spark to guide the next moment in your character’s life. You’ll write in whatever form suits your story best: diary entries, letters, stage directions, or the flickering captions of a silent film. What You’ll Need A standard deck of playing cards A notebook, or digital journal A little imagination, and a love for drama What Kind of Story Will You Tell? A governess blackmailed by her mistress? A barrister ruined by love? A suffragette betrayed by her own ideals? A soldier haunted by what was left unsaid? Your cards decide — and your words give them life. The Curtain Falls When the story ends, you’ll write your Final Monologue and give your play a name — as though it were being performed in a London theatre or flickering across the silver screen. Some endings bring redemption. Most do not. All are memorable. About the Game Edwardian Melodrama is a solo storytelling RPG inspired by the plays, novels, and silent films of the early twentieth century. It celebrates emotion, exaggeration, and spectacle — a world where love is dangerous, honour brittle, and every secret comes at a cost. Designed for quiet, reflective play — perfect for writers, journallers, and lovers of historical fiction. Feedback Welcome If you play the game, I’d love to hear about your experience. Share your thoughts, stories, or suggestions in the comments on this page — your feedback helps shape future versions and optional expansions.
