What it is about
🙋♀️ This is a solo, ✍ Journaling game You need: A deck of cards. Something to write with. Something to write on. In Hamlet Act III, Scene I, Hamlet contemplates the miseries of life, the fear of the unknown, and whether it is better to live or die. Hamlet's soliloquy speaks of death as "The undiscover'd country from whose bourn No traveller returns" Not To Be In Not To Be... The Metamorphosis you'll pick up where Hamlet left off. Writing a soliloquy about a fictionalized version of what happens after "not to be". Fictionalized because, as Shakespeare so thoroughly and accurately surmised, we have no idea what comes next, other than it's a one-way ticket and you'll no longer BE. At least not as you were before. The Metamorphosis This game takes place at the end of your (irl) life, where you'll transform into something not human: from an animal to a mythical creature, or even something intangible or inanimate. As you live your new life, you reflect and question your place in the world, comparing this new life to your previous (irl) one. This builds a sweeping soliloquy using a deck of cards across your new life. Stay Safe Out There This is a game about death/loss: either your death or the realization that it was all a dream, all false. This loss may be difficult to accept. The game also includes hardships (not specified, merely prompts that tell you that you've faced a hardship). Please feel free to ignore or alter prompts if they make you uncomfortable or cause you pain. The goal of this game is to help you appreciate the good in your life and see it from a new point of view, not to cause harm. 🧡💜 Inspiration Created with entering the One-Page Weekender 2026 Jam in mind, Not To Be... The Metamorphosis was inspired by and made with the required theme of "Not Human" and the restriction that the game fit on one page. When thinking on what to make, I was left pondering about metamorphosis and no longer being human (shedding this mortal coil), which led me to Hamlet's soliloquy. The idea sprang from there. We also wanted to enter our own jam: the Celebrating SRDs Jam . Since the other jam was only a weekend-long event, and we had a streaming event for our jam planned to create a game using the On Poetic Tides SRD , (which is a one-page RPG), we decided to combine the two!
