What it is about
🙋♀️ This is a solo journaling TTRPG using Shut the Box as a mechanic. Shut the Box is explained in the game's rules. 🖨️ Printing is optional You’ll need: A deck of cards Three six-sided dice (3d6) Something to write with About the Game Exegesis : An explanation or critical interpretation of a text. Genesis : The origin or coming into being of something. - Merriam-Webster Dictionary Exegenesis is a solo journaling TTRPG using Shut the Box with a twist. The luck-dependent nature of the game captures the lack of control we have over what we experience, while the strategy and journaling show you the ease of bending that experience to your will. You've received a "strange signal" that only your radio can receive. Your job is to translate and interpret that signal in a way that fits your own intentions, whether they're good or bad... Throughout the game, you'll deal out 9 cards (numbered 1-9), then roll two dice. Your job is to remove cards that total up to exactly what you rolled. So, for example, if you roll a 5 and a 4, and the cards are there, you could remove a 9; or an 8 and a 1; or three 3s. If you can't remove cards that exactly total what you rolled, you can use an Insight to roll a third die. You can then total all three dice, any two dice of your choice, or just use one of them to remove cards. Each card removed symbolizes understanding more of the message, and your goal is to keep interpreting the message as a whole (to earn points) while focusing on the suit(s) that matter the most to you. Each suit matches an aspect of life: power, purpose, relationships, and currency. As you learn more, you get Breakthroughs: powerful experiences that lead you to grow as a person. Can you bend the signal's meaning toward your own purpose, or will it bend you? Ludum Dare 59 This game was made in 72 hours for the "jam" portion of Ludum Dare 59. The theme for this jam was SIGNAL.
