What it is about

ECO is a solo journaling RPG about stories that develop a memory of their own. You create a protagonist, place them inside an unresolved situation, and begin writing. There is no Game Master and no predetermined storyline. Instead, the campaign gradually builds itself from your decisions, consequences, unanswered questions, recurring characters, growing threats, and the passage of time. What makes ECO different is that the journal is not simply a record of what happened. It becomes part of the game engine. People you met several sessions ago may return under different circumstances. An old question may suddenly become relevant again. A forgotten place can acquire new meaning. Conflicts continue to develop even when your protagonist ignores them. The longer you play, the less the game depends on generic prompts and the more it begins drawing from the unique history of your own campaign. How It Works Each Entry begins by asking the campaign what should return to the foreground. The game may call upon something new, an existing Echo, an unresolved Thread, an unanswered Question, or a growing Pressure. A second roll determines how that element changes the story through operations such as Reveal, Return, Transform, Threaten, Break, Protect, Invert, or Entangle . From there, you interpret the result, make decisions for your protagonist, resolve uncertain actions, and record what changed. Over time, the campaign develops its own collection of people, places, mysteries, truths, conflicts, and consequences. Features • Solo play with no Game Master • Designed for journaling and emergent storytelling • Works with virtually any genre or setting • Simple resolution using only a d6 and a d12 • A campaign memory system that brings earlier events back into play • Characters, locations, conflicts, and mysteries can change over time • Threats continue to develop while the protagonist is occupied elsewhere • Narrative character growth instead of experience points • Eight ready to use starting Seeds • Printable campaign sheets included • Suitable for short stories or long running campaigns All you need is this book, something to write with, a d6, and a d12.
